Add files to your tasks to keep all relevant information in one place. Whether it’s a design mockup, a PDF specification, or a screenshot of a bug, attachments help you stay organized and work more efficiently.

## Where to Find It

Attachments are located in the **Task Detail view**. When you open any task, you’ll find the attachments section between the task description and subtasks.

To open a task:

1. Click on any task name in your task list, calendar, or board view
2. The task modal will open, showing all task details including attachments

## How to Add Attachments

There are two ways to add files to a task:

### Click to Upload

1. Open the task you want to add files to
2. Click the **“Add attachment”** button in the attachments section
3. Select one or more files from your computer
4. Files will begin uploading immediately

### Drag and Drop

1. Open the task you want to add files to
2. Drag files from your computer directly onto the task modal
3. A drop zone will appear with the message “Drag and drop here to attach”
4. Release the files to start uploading

You can upload multiple files at once using either method.

## Viewing Attachments

### Attachment List

- Attachments appear with a thumbnail preview (for images) or a document icon (for PDFs)
- Each attachment shows its filename and file size
- If a task has more than 3 attachments, click **“Show more”** to see all files

### Full Preview

- Click on any attachment to open it in a fullscreen viewer
- Images display at full resolution
- PDFs open in an embedded viewer
- Use **left/right arrow keys** to navigate between attachments
- Press **Escape** or click the **X** button to close the viewer

### Download

- Hover over any attachment to reveal the download button
- Click the download icon to save the file to your computer

## Managing Attachments

### Delete an Attachment

1. Hover over the attachment you want to remove
2. Click the trash icon that appears
3. The attachment will be deleted immediately

**Note:** Attachments cannot be added to or deleted from archived tasks.

## File Limitations

### Maximum File Size

- **30 MB** per file
- Files exceeding this limit will show an error: “File exceeds 30MB limit”

### Supported File Types

| Category | Formats |
| --- | --- |
| Images | JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WebP, HEIC, HEIF |
| Documents | PDF |

If you try to upload an unsupported file type, you’ll see the error: “File type not supported”

**Note about HEIC/HEIF files:** These Apple image formats can be uploaded and downloaded, but may not display a preview in the browser. You can still download them to view on your device.

## Tips for Best Results

1. **Use descriptive filenames** - Files retain their original names, so clear naming helps everyone understand what they’re looking at
2. **Compress large images** - If you’re hitting the 30MB limit, consider compressing images before uploading
3. **Convert HEIC to JPEG** - For better compatibility across browsers, convert Apple HEIC photos to JPEG before uploading
4. **Keep attachments relevant** - Only attach files that are directly related to the task to keep things organized

## Keyboard Shortcuts

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Navigate to previous attachment | Left Arrow |
| Navigate to next attachment | Right Arrow |
| Close attachment viewer | Escape |

## Troubleshooting

### “File exceeds 30MB limit”

The file you’re trying to upload is too large. Try compressing the file or splitting it into smaller parts.

### “File type not supported”

Only image files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WebP, HEIC, HEIF) and PDFs are supported. Convert your file to a supported format before uploading.

### Image doesn’t show preview

Some image formats (especially HEIC/HEIF from Apple devices) may not display previews in all browsers. The file is still uploaded successfully and can be downloaded.

### Can’t add attachments

Make sure the task is not archived. Archived tasks don’t allow adding or deleting attachments.
