I am managing both pacing work for chronic fatigue and ADHD time blindness/hyperfocus. I would find automatic break reminders super useful. I use the windows app and the pomodoro timer helps, but I often don’t remember to start it, and lots of tasks don’t fit into neat pomodoro blocks. (Also, as working doesn’t always go as planned, so working reminders would be useful in pomodoro focus time.)
(BTW, the activity monitoring function of the windows app is absolutely amazing as an accessibility tool for both those conditions.)
beep: definite but not irritating (not too annoying as one may be doing legitimate off-screen work).
chime: upbeat but not disruptive.
tune: longer tune to recall one to the computer from elsewhere, where one may be focused on something else or moving around. Something pleasant but lively, maybe with an option to be randomised from a list rather than the same tune every time so ADHD brains don’t blank it out as too familiar/unimportant after some time.
all times configurable in preferences, but only pre-defined times permitted when running.
stars (or points or something) for gamification, but also potentially patronising/juvenile/annoying, so should be optional.
A simple “break reminders” tick box on the pomodoro tab would allow easy switching for e.g. meetings or admin work time that shouldn’t get tracked the same way.
The break reminder shouldn’t affect/be affected by monitoring activity or timers, since the activity you start with isn’t always the activity that actually happens, and it’s important to be able to reconstruct that.
