Compare logged vs planned time

Toggl 2.0

Topic content

I have been using Toggl Track for over 10 years, and have been very happy with it. The one thing that was always missing was the ability to compare the time I intended to work on a project (or for a “client”, which in my case is just a higher level grouping of projects), vs the time I actually did, during a specific time window (e.g. a week or a quarter). I had hoped that Toggl 2.0 would finally allow me to do this, but I can’t see how to do it.

On the Timer page, I can select the “split” view, and it shows me logged and planned side by side on a calendar. I can enter the work I plan to do in the “planned” section, and as I log entries, I can see them next to each other. At the top of the page, I can see a breakdown of logged and planned entries by project, but not by client. And this is only available for a week or day, not for an arbitrary time range. Feature request: Allow this logged and planned view at the top of the timer page to optionally use clients instead of projects, and maybe show them one above the other, so you can visually compare more easily.

Creating reports over different time entries that include the planned time doesn’t seem to be possible. On the Reports page, I can select the time range I want, and see the “Client and project breakdown”. But this only shows me the Logged time. Feature request: It would be really good if it could also show me the Planned time in an additional column. Then I could see how my actual work was aligned with what I had planned.

I love Toggl, but this is a capability which has eluded me for over a decade!

Both estimated time and logged time are shown on my reports.

Interesting. It seems to depend on how you select the breakdown in the Reports page. If I select

Breakdown by: Client then by: Project

I don’t get an “Estimated Time” column. If I use Client and Task, I do!

However, all my estimates for Client / task are 0. I think this is because the report is showing the estimates defined in each task (so it only works when you break down by task), rather than the amount of time planned into the calendar, which seem to be two completely different things.
