I’m a freelance writer. I use Toggl to track and bill all my time. I have multiple clients and use different hourly rates for each client, regardless of the project. ie. Client A = $100/hour, Client B = $110/hour, etc. Is it possible to set this up in Toggl? It appears that only each Workspace or project can have a different rate…
Thanks.
Hi there!
Great question, and you’re not alone in needing flexible billing for different clients.
In Toggl Track, billable rates can be set at the project level, which is typically how users manage different rates for each client.
Since projects are usually linked to specific clients, this setup lets you assign a unique hourly rate per client by creating separate projects for each.If you’re on the Starter Plan, you’ll also have access to task-level billable rates, offering even more granularity. Just note that task-level rates can’t be applied to non-billable projects.

Concur with herculix. I have a team. We mostly bill clients same rates for all work we do. I do not want to look up their rate every time I set up a project, nor do I want my colleagues to know what the billable rate is for the client when they are setting up a project.
Hi Marcos, probably not exactly what you were looking for, but a solid workaround: You can use a past project as a template. So, if you do that for all clients, then if someone from your team will create a new project - using that template - the same billable rate will be applied.
