Billing changed to license instead of seats

Today I received a message stating that Toggl will start billing my company based on licenses, not seats. What does this mean exactly? How do I select the licenses or the amount? Will there be a price difference?

That’s a great question, and it’s understandable to want clarity on a billing change like this.

Unfortunately, the details around the license-based billing change, how to select licenses or quantities, and any potential price differences are not covered in the resources I have available right now. I wouldn’t want to give you inaccurate information on something as important as billing.

What I can suggest is checking any follow-up emails from Toggl about this change, as they typically include specifics about what the change means for your account and any steps you may need to take. There may also be more details available in the billing section of your Toggl account settings.

can I say the only option on the button was to click I understand but I didn’t. The explanation of the change was insufficient.

Hello! Jake here from the Support team just stepping in with a quick explainer.

First, to reiterate what the notification in question said, I’ll re-share it here:

From 20 July 2026, your subscription is billed on the number of licenses you subscribe to — not the number of members currently in your organization.

Removing a member frees up their Toggl Track license, but your bill stays the same. You’ll keep paying for the same number of licenses until you reduce your license count in

Admin console → Billing → Manage licenses.

The change takes effect from your next billing period.

(NOTE: the pathway listed above will only go live on July 20)

The main change here is seat changes (adding or removing users) and license changes (buying/removing seats) will become separate actions: adding a seat will automatically add a license, but removing a seat will NOT automatically remove a license. License removal will have to be done separately from the Admin Console path listed above.

We’ve chosen to do this to allow users more control and consistency over their subscription costs: retaining licenses in expectation for upcoming user additions, or just more reliability in trusting what’s being billed to your workspace.

We’ve added this to our Terms of Service (Terms of Service | Toggl Track) as well for review!
