In the past, toggl allowed you to discard idle time. If your tracker went on tracking, it’ll be able to know from the last time you were active, and then would delete the idle time from that point. I use the Chrome app, but it doesn’t discard idle time, a popup doesn’t show to let me know that I’ve been idle, and today, I just saw that it had been tracking for 68+ hours… How inconvenient.
Is there a setting that I’m missing from the Chrome app that I’m not seeing? Or has this feature been shuttered off?
Hiya! Good news - idle detection hasn’t been removed, it just needs to be switched on manually in the extension settings. Here’s how to enable it:
Click the Toggl Track icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the extension
Click the Settings (cog) icon
Go to the General tab
Enable Idle detection
Once that’s on, you’ll see a popup whenever the extension detects you’ve been away from your keyboard for a set amount of time, giving you the option to discard the idle period or keep tracking.
As a side note, if the browser is closed, idle detection won’t trigger since the extension isn’t running - so for extended sessions it’s worth also keeping an eye on your timer.
For the 68-hour entry that was created, you can edit its stop time manually in the web app to correct it.
