Toggl Desktop (Mac) shows Chrome profile name instead of active tab, only for one profile

Hi,

I’m using the Toggl Track desktop app on Mac with the timeline feature enabled. It correctly tracks which tabs are open in Chrome, except for one specific Chrome profile. For that profile, it only shows the Chrome profile name instead of the active tab title.

A few details:

  • I use multiple Chrome profiles; the issue only occurs with one of them.
  • The problem persists whether or not the Toggl Chrome extension is installed.
  • Other Chrome profiles work fine and show the correct tab titles.

Things I’d like to know:

  • Is there a profile-level setting in Chrome that could block tab title tracking?
  • Could it be related to Chrome profile permissions or OS-level accessibility settings?
  • Has anyone else run into this and found a fix?

Update — solved it myself!

After posting, I figured it out. The issue was caused by a custom window name I had set in that Chrome profile. You can set this via the three-dot menu (top right) > More tools > Name window…

Once I removed the custom window name, Toggl started tracking the correct tab titles again for that profile.

Hopefully this helps someone else running into the same thing!
