"DatabaseModel.sqlite couldn't be opened", what to do?

Post Title: Has anyone gotten this message before: DatabaseModel.sqlite couldn’t be opened

Your Question/Topic: I’ve tried everything in the FAQ and doesn’t seem to work
for full clarification, this happened on the very recent MacOS26 beta. Happens on iOS26 beta as well, same error. Login out / back in doesn’t work, reinstalling also doesn’t work.

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to post about this. Our team is aware of the issue and is already working on resolving it. The issue was introduced with the latest macOS/iOS beta.

We are doing our best to roll out an update as soon as possible.

I ran into this just a few moments ago today (June 13, 2025). I do have ios 26 which is why I didn’t report it. Deleting and re-installing the app appears to have resolved the issue for me which suggests there might have been an update published to the app store in the last couple of days. If so, thanks for resolving this.

you’re right and confirmed, iOS app is fixed and no longer has this issue! The MacOS26 version is still not fixed yet though : (

Can’t see any update on iOS version - probably not in US app store yet?

Would be nice to have a “downloadable version” (beta, nightly, …) so we don’t need to wait for macOS app store update

I am in the US App Store, I didnt do an update though I just straight up deleted my and downloaded and installed again and that fixed it (I also forgot to check if there is a new version or not…)

Thanks, I tried the same and it works!

I also did something similar to fix the same issue on macOS. Just delete the database files in ~/Library/Group Containers/B227VTMZ94.group.com.toggl.daneel.extensions/production (DatabaseModel.sqlite and others). Open the app (reinstall if needed) again and let it resync, the issue disappears. Probably the new OS version dropped support of some older sqlite databases or deprecated feature sets, so a new local database has to be re-created

ohhh magic that worked! thanks for the tip!

Thank you, @Mason_Foley, for guiding this discussion in the right direction, and @polymorpher, for sharing how the same can be achieved using the desktop app.

We are still working on a proper fix for this issue and will let you know once this is resolved without the need to clear local data.

Amazing, it works fine. Really helpful. Thank you for sharing.

The same problem. Tried to delete and install again – the same error. And I can’t stop my timer, it’s still counting minutes in a task. So I just you at the moment iOS mobile application and it’s annoying to switch to mobile to change task etc…

really you still having problems? I did the mentioned above for MacOS and it’s working fine.
iOS samething, I just deleted it and reinstalled it and it worked : ( sorry you’re still having issues

or maybe try to stop your timer first via the web console then try it again?

In web it’s okay – my timer is stoppped, but macOS app still counting and I can’t stop it. Even after deleting the app.
I tries again to delete and when I installed again – i saw my previous data (I guess from Cache) and after that Toggl opened a modal with logging. I tried to login but I have now anther problem –

Logout also doesn’t work
