Google Calendar planned tasks lose planned time after logging

Hi,

I’m using Toggl 2.0 with Google Calendar integration.

My calendar’s Default action is set to “Plan task”, so every Google Calendar event is automatically imported as a planned task.

However, when I click Log on one of these planned tasks, the task no longer shows the planned duration. Instead, it shows:

  • Planned:
  • Logged: 1h

If I create a planned task manually in Toggl 2.0 and then log it, it works as expected:

  • Planned: 1h
  • Logged: 1h

So this issue seems to affect only tasks that originate from Google Calendar.

Expected behaviour: A Google Calendar event planned for 1 hour should remain Planned: 1h after logging, while also showing Logged: 1h, so planned vs. actual time can be compared.

One thought: could this be because Google Calendar planned events don’t automatically get a persistent task associated with them?

If so, it would be helpful if every imported planned Google Calendar event automatically created (or linked to) a task by default, so that the planned duration is retained when logging time. That would allow planned vs. logged time to work consistently, just like with manually created planned tasks.

Is that how it’s intended to work, or is this a bug?

Thanks!

This does sound like unintended behavior, and you have done a great job isolating it by comparing Google Calendar-imported planned tasks against manually created ones.

Based on what is available in the knowledge base, this level of detail about how Google Calendar planned tasks handle the planned duration after logging is not documented, so I cannot say definitively whether it is intended behavior or a bug.

What I can say is that the inconsistency you are describing, where manually created planned tasks retain the planned duration but Google Calendar-imported ones do not, does point to something worth investigating further.

Your suggestion about automatically linking imported Google Calendar events to a persistent task so that planned vs. logged comparisons work consistently is a great idea and not something that is currently available. I will make sure to pass this feedback along to the product team.

Confirm problem. For me it doesn’t create a task anymore from google calendar. It used to in the beggining.
