I’ve been using Track for a few years now. I did have Plan, and stopped using it. Went back to it last week and found focus. I thought it was an upgrade to Plan but I now realise it’s a Plan/Track integration.
I imported data from Plan, but only got the archived clients, nothing else. I came on here and read up on how to sync with Track and it all seemed a little wishy-washy. As I only have a few projects, I decided I could just make a fresh start and run the two side by side for a bit.
As I didn’t want the archived clients I decided to use a new organisation. Then thinking that the two products were separate I deleted the organisation with the archive clients. Then I went back to Track and it seems the workspaces are connected and I’ve deleted all my Track data.
I’m a sole trader and found this all very confusing. Focus seemed an ideal solution for me and now I fear it’s turned into a disaster.
I’m really sorry to hear you’ve had this frustrating experience. It sounds like the connection between Focus and Track wasn’t clear, and that’s understandable given how the products work together.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to help recover deleted workspace data through this channel. What I can tell you is that deleted data may be recoverable depending on your account type and when the deletion occurred, but you’ll need to reach out directly to get this looked into.
Going forward, here’s what might help: Focus and Track are designed to work together as integrated tools. When you’re setting up Focus for the first time, it’s worth taking time to understand how your workspaces will sync between the two products to avoid unintended changes.
Since you’re a sole trader looking for a planning and time tracking solution, Focus could still be a good fit for you once you get things sorted. The integration between planning and tracking in one tool is designed to be streamlined for smaller teams.
I hope you’re able to get your data situation resolved quickly.
You said, ‘reach out directly and get this looked into.’, Could you tell me who I contact? The deletion happened yesterday afternoon.
I used to use Track and Plan together, but it wasn’t granular enough for me. I thought Focus was an upgrade to Plan, but I couldn’t get the two things to sync; Track could see Focus, but Focus couldn’t see Track. I started with a trial, paid for a subscription yesterday and got myself very confused trying to the two to sync.
Hi Steve, I’m checking with our team on whether we could restore your Toggl Track organization.
In the meantime, let me explain how the imports/tools work:
Toggl Focus is a separate tool with options to import data from Toggl Plan and Toggl Track. The idea is to unify both time tracking and planning in one place, but it is not an integration or a sync - it’s a new product with import functionality from Toggl Plan and Toggl Track.
The import from Toggl Plan to Toggl Focus should capture all historical data (not just archived clients) and relies on your user email being the same in the two accounts, as well as you being the owner of both. Could you send me the email you use in a direct message, so we could check?
I’ll get back to you on whether our team can technically bring back a deleted organization. In the meantime, please send your details over so we can investigate the import issues further.
Thank you very much for your reply, it was extremely useful. I’m looking forward very much to using Focus as it would appear to be just what I need.
I am going to forget importing data from Plan, I hadn’t used it for some time, so there wasn’t any data in there of any importance, unlike Track. This was all kicked off by my desire to return to Plan so I will treat this as an opportunity to have a fresh start; I only have a few projects.
Thank you very much for all your help. My organisation and data are back. Things aren’t quite right, but I’m hoping that Nida can shed some light on the remaining anomalies.
Would you be able to tell us more about this and how one sets this up? This is exactly what I had expected but I’m not seeing a way to do this anywhere in either software.
