Importing data from Toggl Plan and Toggl Track to Toggl Focus

You can now easily transfer your data from Toggl Plan or Toggl Track into Toggl Focus. This article explains how the importer works and walks you through the available import methods.

How to import data

You can kick off the import from any of these three entry points:

  1. Top banner.

  2. Import data button in the side navigation.

  3. Profile settings → Data Import.

Select the product you would like to import from, your desired workspace(s) and click Import data.

Importing from Toggl Plan

  • Import all time data from Toggl Plan to Toggl Focus.
  • Team admins can import all data for their team, including team members. Users who have not yet used Toggl Focus will receive an invite email.
  • Import projects, tasks, status, teams and team members.
  • Task comments will be imported as a task description.

Importing from Toggl Track

  • Import data from the past 6 months.
  • Only individual users can import their own data. Team-level imports or organisation-wide workspaces are not currently supported.
  • Import clients, projects, tasks, status.
  • Time entries in without a linked task become archived tasks in Toggl Focus.

Things to keep in mind

  • This is not a live sync. Changes made later in Toggl Plan or Toggl Track (e.g. edits, deletes, re-assignments) will not reflect in Toggl Focus.

  • Import is available at Workspace level only. You cannot choose specific projects. Everything in the selected workspace is imported.

  • If you cancel during import or start over, previous imports remain in Toggl Focus.

Tried this process a number of times to import my projects and tasks from Toggl Plan - nothing happens even though it says it ran successfully.

Imported from Toggl Plan but it imported hours for other team members and now I can’t filter reports to just my hours.

When I go from Toggl Track to Focus, there is only 1 option “Import data” (it says “Select the data that you would like to import: Toggle Track”). No further selections can be made, so I assume it’s the full data set (time entries, tags, projects, etc.).

Just tried the import feature, is it true that it’s only possible to import the data within a year?

Hey @Cumino_T, the import picks up all time Toggl Plan data and 6 months of data coming from Toggl Track. Did you only see your data from the past year if you’re importing from Toggl Plan? If you could share a screenshot/screen recording, that would be super helpful.

Hey @sebastiaan, I believe a possibility here is that your time entries were imported as archived tasks in Toggl Focus, since they were not associated to a Task in Toggl Track. You can view archived tasks from Tasks → Archived, let us know if this is the case

Yes, now I see them, but they still do not show up in the Toggle Focus - Calendar (My time) view. In Toggle Track I group/label my time entries by Project (and use tags). How to get this imported/synced from Track to Focus?
