I use projects extensively in Toggl to organize my entries according to time codes from my employers time tracking system. Prior to the migration I would have the option to create a new project if one did not exist when selecting a project for individual Toggl time entries.
In the new Toggl 2.0 post migration this feature is missing. When I try to search for a project that does not exist, I just get “no results” with no option to create a new project with that name. This forces me to go to the Project page just to create the new project and then back to edit the time log entry again.
This feels like a significant regression in the UX compared to the old Toggl experience. I would like if this feature could be brought back please.
You’re right that this is a noticeable workflow change. In Toggl, when you search for a project while editing a time entry and no match is found, there is currently no inline option to create a new project from that search - you do need to go to the Projects page to create it first, then return to your entry to assign it.
This is a good idea and a reasonable thing to want back, and I’ll make sure this feedback reaches the product team.
In the meantime, the workaround is exactly what you’ve already found: create the project on the Projects page (accessible from the left sidebar under Plan), then assign it to your time entry. It’s an extra step, but the Projects page is available on all plans across web, desktop, and mobile apps, so at least it’s always reachable.
