Toggl icon no longer changes color

I have come to rely on my Toggl app icon in my dock (macOS) changing from purple to gray when it is not actively tracking my time. Now it is always purple. Why the change? Already several times this week I’ve thought I was tracking time only to find many minutes or hours later that I wasn’t.

That sounds really frustrating, especially when it leads to lost time entries!

Unfortunately, the knowledge base does not have specific details about the macOS dock icon color behavior or any recent changes to it. This is not something I can confirm or explain from the available information.

What you can do in the meantime to avoid missing time tracking is use the Toggl browser extension or check the timer display directly in the app, as the running timer is visible in the app interface itself.

Since this appears to be a change in behavior you relied on, it would be worth checking if there is a macOS app update available, as sometimes updates can affect this kind of visual indicator. You can also check the Toggl Track desktop app release notes or the community forum here to see if other users have reported the same thing.

@sgilberg Hi Sarah! This was a change necessitated by changes in macOS, unfortunately.

Thanks for the response! Is there any way to bring back some kind of visual indicator on this, even if it isn’t a change in color? I know other app icons have the ability to show e.g. if there’s a notification or something on the dock…

I have it put the icon in the menu bar. That one can still change color, and you can also set it to show the current timer and/or project next to the icon when a track is active.

Thank you for this! I had it on my menu bar too but I never look there. I might though if it shows more detail, which I hadn’t realized was an option.
