I am a digital nomad on a team of one (me) tracking time to bill solely to clients in one time zone in the US (call it Chicago, for simplicity). In the past, I have dutifully followed Toggl’s advice to change my time zone when changing countries, but it can result in overlapping and confusing time entries in my reports. Working while on an airplane crossing timezones leads to this.
This year I’m doing it differently and keeping my time zone in Toggl always set to US/Chicago. I have found this works very well because I always know what time it is there and it prevents confusion when changing time zones.
The problem is that Toggl insist on nagging me on every page refresh that I should change my time zone. Also, the daily & weekly timers on the page at Toggl Track are all based on my local time, not my report time.
I’m sure I’m not the only digital nomad who would like to just keep my Toggl tracked time in a single reporting time zone at all times. Can you please consider building a use case or persona around this and making some small feature changes to accommodate it?
Tasks that come to mind due to this use case:
- Allow disabling the time zone nag
- Correctly show weekly & daily timers on the Track page based on the selected reporting time zone (until a week ago it did this)
- Show all my tracked time entries based on the reporting time zone, not my local time.
- Low priority, stretch goal: Show both time zones for each entry on the Track page.
- Possibly, instead of much of the above, allow setting the user’s profile to just do, show, and track everything in UTC. I would be fine with this too, personally.
I only use the website, not the installable apps at this time, if that matters.
