What are the benefits of tags?
Tags allow you to add context to time entries, and you can use them to define what time entries are related to beyond a client and/or project. Tags will also allow you to structure your data in a way that you can be more precise with your reporting and drill in deeper into your data.
Tags help you organize and filter your time entries across projects, clients, and tasks. They’re especially useful when you want to track recurring themes (like “Meetings” or “Admin work”) without creating separate projects for each. They’re ideal for slicing your data across dimensions not tied to your workspace structure.
Some benefits advanced users typically get from tags:
- Custom reporting: Use tags to isolate and compare work types across clients or teams.
- Better analysis: Combine tags with filters to track trends, productivity, or effort distribution.
- Operational insights: Identify time spent on internal vs. client work, deep vs. shallow work, or strategic vs. reactive tasks.
They’re especially powerful when paired with consistent naming and a good data structure via projects and clients.
