I use both the android toggl app and the toggl website, and in the past they used to sync very quickly – I rarely would have situations where the two were showing different sets of data.
But in the last couple of months, the android app just does not want to sync with the website. The website data will usually be several hours out of date when I go to stop or start a timer, and sometimes the android app will even complain it’s offline. Killing and restarting the android app will usually force it to sync, but this is not a long-term solution.
I haven’t changed any phone settings or updated my OS recently. My android app is fully up to date. I’ve checked all the “battery optimization” settings and they still remain off, as they have been since I got the phone. This is pretty frustrating – I’ve been using toggl for over a decade, and the ease of switching between phone and website is one of the key selling features for me. Is there anything in the website or app that would explain this problem, and is there any fix?
@Lanth Let’s try the simple approach first. Considering that updating/removing the app doesn’t remove all local data, please do the following:
Make sure all your data is synced between the mobile app and the web app by comparing the data from the main app view in the mobile app with the Timer page in the web app
Check for any error icons in the form of or next to your time entries in the mobile app
If there are no error icons and all looks good, please log out and log back in - logging out clears local data and might help with the issue if it is caused by corrupt data, which can happen after an OS upgrade.
Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to speed up syncing; I still see hour+ lags in syncing between website and app, even when I manually try to trigger syncs. And I’m still getting occasional, inaccurate “not connected to the internet” errors.
Settings says it’s 7.8.2 (52251481). I’m running it on a Pixel 8 Pro with android 14.
I also tried logging out, then uninstalling and reinstalling the app; that didn’t help either. It’s still just failing to keep things synced; right now it’s an hour and a half unsynced compared to the web app. Sometimes it just doesn’t sync, sometimes it complains it’s offline – the complaints about being offline feel like they’ve increased in frequency over the last few weeks.
