API Error Message — likely caused by Raycast extension

Suddenly today (Jan. 5th, 2026), every 7 seconds my computer would display the following error message:

Toggl :police_car_light:: 402 Payment Required, You have hit your hourly limit for API calls. Please upgrade to a paid plan for incre…”

I didn’t think I was using the Toggl API, but I did have the Toggl extension added inside Raycast, and I noticed that an open Raycast window would disappear every time the error message was shown.

The error messages no longer show after disabling/uninstalling the extension from Raycast.

I’m posting this message in the hopes that anyone with a similar issue can troubleshoot and solve it faster.

Hey Todd! Were you only using our own browser extension, or did you have any other integration between us and Raycast set up?

It is the extension. You likely have the menubar task display option turned on and that’s triggering api limits. I turned that off and now only get it when I switch tasks more than 4-5 times an hour.

Oh and as per @Support you only get 30 api calls regardless of the plan, so the error message is misleading. Perhaps they should update that as well. Seriously.

@Support I believe that your browser extension what the only integration I have set up. (I was also connected to a Google calendar for a Google Workspace I no longer have access to, but that was connected via the settings panel within Toggl).

As correctly guessed by @Speck, I did have the menubar task display option turned on.
