Asana Integration: Updating Tasks In Toggl

I do not have my projects in Asana synced over to Toggl, as my organization uses lots of projects that I am only on for visibility or that are not relevant to things we want to use Toggl to track. When I use the Toggl button in Asana on a task, and assign it to a project, I am not then seeing that task reflected back in Toggl under my tasks. Or if the task title is existing, I am also not seeing it sync to that task.

Do I need to have a full sync of all my projects enabled to have this happen or is this just not a function of the integration?

@Sequoia_Selah thanks for posting! :wave:

It sounds like you’re using the Toggl Button in Asana to track time on tasks and expecting those tasks to appear in Toggl Track under “My Tasks” or sync with existing ones. Let me clarify how this works.

Toggl has two integrations with Asana:

  • Native integration that passes data from Asana into Toggl Track and it can import:

    • Users as Toggl Track users
    • Projects as Toggl Track projects
    • Tasks as Toggl Track tasks within projects
  • The integration via the Track browser extension, which works with Asana and 100+ other tools, and it is not bidirectional.

    • When enabled, a Toggl Button will appear in relevant places in Asana, allowing you to track time directly from the Asana web app.
    • Your time entry description will be automatically populated based on where you started the timer (task name, project name, etc…)
    • If you enable the native integration as well and import all your projects, the extension will also automatically match the time entry with the appropriate project based on the imported data from Asana
