Feature Request / Discussion: Custom End-of-Day Time for Daily Tracking
Is there any way to set the end of the day to something other than midnight?
According to Toggl’s AI chat support, this isn’t currently possible — which honestly makes the tool really difficult to use for meaningful daily goals.
For example, I often work or use the computer until 2–3 AM, and anything tracked after midnight automatically gets assigned to the next day. But in my world, I haven’t gone to sleep yet — so to me, it’s still the same day. This completely throws off analytics, especially when trying to track things like:
Work goals (e.g., 6+ hours of productive work per day)
Limits on distractions (e.g., < 1 hour/day on social media or YouTube)
Locking “the end of the day” to midnight feels very arbitrary — especially in a global, remote, 24/7 work world where everyone’s schedule is different. It would make far more sense if users could define when their day ends (e.g., 4 AM) based on their sleep schedule, rather than defaulting to the traditional midnight cutoff.
I asked the AI support if there’s a workaround — for example, adjusting the time zone - but it says Toggl uses the system clock and that wouldn’t help. So now I’m stuck with “daily” reports that don’t reflect reality and goal tracking that’s broken.
Has anyone figured out a workaround for this?
And if not — how do we formally request this feature? It feels like a basic need that should have been solved years ago.
That’s right! The time zone settings are only reflected on the Reports page and are meant to match your actual location. They’re especially helpful if you travel to different time zones and track time with a team. That way, your data looks like it didn’t change time zones at all. The Timer page, on the other hand, retrieves its time zone information from your browser, which is automatically set based on your device’s location.
You can do that here in the community, if you don’t mind I’ll move your post to the Product Feedback category and it will be noted down and discussed by our product team
Thanks. yes, please feel free to move this to the “Product Feedback” section.
I’d love to see a feature that allows users to set a custom, fixed end of day time for reporting and daily summaries. That alone would solve most of the issues for those of us who don’t follow a typical midnight to midnight schedule.
Even better would be an optional setting that dynamically adjusts the end of the day based on when the user logs time as “sleep” or something equivalent. For example, if I go to sleep earlier or stay up much later than usual, or if I travel across time zones, Toggl could recognize that and shift the day boundary accordingly.
I’d personally be fine with just the fixed custom time setting (I’d place it somewhere in the middle of my usual sleep hours), but having the option for it to be adaptive based on actual sleep time would make the tool even smarter and more accurate for real-world use.
For example, yesterday (Thursday) I set a goal to keep distractions under 1 hour. I did well — I had less than 30 minutes of distractions during the day. After midnight, while falling asleep, I logged another 30 minutes of distractions. Overall, it was a focused and successful day.
However, when I woke up today (Friday), Toggl showed that I had already used 30 minutes of my 1-hour distraction limit for the day. That time clearly belongs to the previous day, not today.
This kind of tracking makes the daily goal data inaccurate and much less useful, especially for people with later sleep schedules. And all the analytics and goal tracking will be off.
My workaround is to delete the late night distractions from last night. Not great. Please fix! Thanks
it seems I have to wake up at 4am (or 7am) to be truly successful per the hussle bros. I always hear this that we have to wake at 4am. Seems odd given the earth is a sphere and 4am is actually arbitrary except as a reference to when one sphere floating in space orbits on it’s tilted axis past another larger and hotter sphere floating in space. And where we are on the smaller sphere relative to the timing of that rotation. LOL 4am might be important for farming or team work in a given time zone. Not so much for a solo startup on a laptop where everyone has 24 hours…
Jokes aside, I really appreciate the additional detailed context here. It will help our product team understand the need to set a custom end-of-day time (or a setting for dynamic options) in the future. I’ve added your comments to the feature request I communicated already to provide more context on the need.
