I’ve always been experiencing issues where the server isn’t responsive enough when I finish a time entry and create a new one where it will create an empty time entry without actually stopping the timer (been happening for almost 2 years - for as long as I’ve been using Toggl). It’s always really annoying to fix, and happens at least every few days. I’ve reported it a couple times before, still not fixed.
But right now over this past few days it’s gotten a lot worse. The server is taking noticeable amounts of time (0.5s-2s or longer) for actions to go through. This causes so many UI bugs with basic app usage that I don’t even know where to begin. This combined with the ongoing issue above really makes me want to switch to something else. And I’m not experiencing these kind of connectivity issues on any other application.
Just been using the mobile app + desktop site and app across a few devices. I think it’s the worst on the desktop app. And if it helps, I’m in Canada near the west coast.
I understand how frustrating that would be, especially when it’s been happening consistently. Server responsiveness issues can definitely impact your workflow, particularly when creating and stopping time entries in quick succession.
A few things that might help:
First, try clearing your browser cache and restarting the desktop app, as this can sometimes resolve responsiveness issues. If you’re using multiple devices, try narrowing down which one has the worst performance to help identify if it’s device-specific.
You might also want to check your internet connection stability, as connectivity issues on your end can sometimes cause the app to behave this way even if other applications seem fine.
Regarding the recurring issue with empty time entries being created when stopping and starting timers - this sounds like it could be related to the responsiveness problems you’re experiencing. Once you’ve tried the troubleshooting steps above, that should help clarify whether this is a persistent bug or related to the performance delays.
If the performance issues persist after these steps, the Toggl team would benefit from knowing specifics like the exact time you experienced the slowdowns, which would help them investigate what was happening on their end.
