I seem to remember that in reports there used to be checkboxes next to every description line, and you could select however many descriptions you needed for your analysis. Now, however, if you select one description line, all the others disappear, which makes it harder to analyze time usage.
For example, I have a single project that involves editing, typesetting, and cover design, but I can’t just select all the entries for the first editing pass to see how long that part took me, nor can I do the same for the typesetting or cover design descriptions. Using a single “first pass” description would be less helpful to me because I also use Toggl to keep track of where I am in the process, so I need to have the page numbers in there, and for the adjustment phase of the typesetting I like to track how long it took me to do different kinds of adjustments. (Screen shot from a recent project for reference.)
Can we have the checkboxes back with no disappearing descriptions, please? Or is there a different way to do what I need done that I’m missing?
I understand your need to analyze multiple descriptions within a single project. Unfortunately, the current behavior in Toggl Track reports doesn’t support selecting multiple description lines simultaneously to view their combined time data. The ability to filter by multiple descriptions at once using checkboxes doesn’t appear to be available in the current version.
As a workaround, you could consider using Toggl’s project and tag features more extensively to organize your work. For example, you might create separate tags for “editing,” “typesetting,” and “cover design,” or use sub-projects if applicable. This would let you filter and analyze time by these categories without relying on description-based filtering.
Another option would be to use Toggl’s report scheduling and sharing features to generate reports that you can then manually review, though this wouldn’t solve the multi-selection issue directly.
That said, this sounds like a valuable feature request. The ability to select multiple descriptions and view their combined data would be helpful for your workflow. I’ll share this feedback with the product team for consideration.
