Your first feedback about Toggl Focus

Hi Rumi,

I’ve been testing Toggl Focus and I agree that this new “plan view” feels much friendlier than Toggl Plan. I’m curious though: which features will remain free, and which ones will be behind a paywall? In the old Toggl, all features were visible but premium ones had a small popup indicating they weren’t available in the free version. It would be nice to have those pop ups around Focus too.
Also, it would be nice to have better filters. For example, “show me all tasks that DO NOT have this tag”.
And also, it would be a nice feature i Toggl could “write” on Google Calendar. So, if any wask scheduled, it would show in my own calendar.

Thanks!

Hi @beem , we’ve been doing some improvements, could you try again please? :person_bowing:

Hi @kovin , i just tried re-logging into my Toggl Track and Focus account. My main workspace + organization in Toggl Track is still not showing up in Toggl Focus on the same email address. :eyes:
Is there a way to dissociate them so I can try and reconfigure Toggl Focus anew?

Thanks

Hey @lamajopedia, thanks for the feedback, I’ve passed it on to our team! As for the pricing questions, we will be able to share more information on that soon, as it’s still work in progress.

Will there be a way to opt out of Toggl Focus from Toggl Plan? Toggl Plan works perfectly for my needs and Focus seems a lot more task-at-a-specific-time based than I need. The general list of tasks (rather than having them scheduled at specific times of day), as well as the ease of colour coding tasks is really important to how I schedule things for my team.

Hi @Abby, in Toggl Focus, we have the Tasks view, which is a list view of all tasks which can be filtered on member, type, project, status, priority, and tags. Colour coding is also available in Focus - users can choose a colour for each project, which is then applied to all tasks in that project for easier visual planning. So you can use it in a way that matches your Toggl Plan workflow.

Is there anything on the Tasks view / colour coding tasks that does not work as you’d expect it to?

Hi Rumi - my team has multiple tasks per day, and it’s VERY important that we don’t overbook each team member, or overbook spaces. I see the ability to colour code now, but the way that the task view is laid out in Focus means that you aren’t looking a day-to-day calendar anymore - you’re viewing all your tasks. We really need something that shows us what’s happening on a single given day (in conjunction with what’s happening during the rest of the week). I think it’s really important for our scheduling system that we’re able to view the calendar as a list of tasks for any given day, but not schedule them for any particular time.
I know your job is to help dispel any concerns about Focus and provide some help with people learning it, but I have to ask - is there a way to opt out of Focus and keep working with Plan? Plan works perfectly for our needs, to be honest.
If there isn’t a way to stay working with Plan, can you tell me when the official roll out for Focus will be? I will keep playing around with Focus to see if I can get it to work, but to be totally honest, I think it’s been overcomplicated to the point of it not working for my needs, and I might need to find another scheduling program that suits us, prior to Focus rolling out.
Thanks!

Hi @Abby, I just made this quick clickthrough demo on the timeline view to illustrate how to view a list of tasks per day that are not scheduled at a specific time. Would this work for you?

Hi Rumi,

Thank you for your reply!

I tried to look at the “Timeline”, but no matter how many times I try to import data from Plan, only one single project comes up, and it’s really hard to read compared to Plan. Is there anything you can do to help me there? How can I import everything from Plan so that I can see it in Focus as well? I would really prefer not to have to input all the data manually when the transfer happens.

Also, of the tasks that do show up in Focus, all of them have the same deadline (October 31st) but they appear as if they have different deadlines for a reason I can’t understand. I would like all of the tasks on the timeline to overlap each other visually, just as they do in Plan. Do I need to check off anything for this to be possible?

Hi Ekaterina, I understand the data import issue might not be persisting any longer, please let me know if you still need help!

they appear as if they have different deadlines for a reason I can’t understand

Do you mean just visually on the timeline, or are their dates also changed?

Hi Rumi thanks for setting this up - It doesn’t seem as I am able to just click to add a new task the way the demo did. Is there another button, or a setting I have wrong?

Hi! Coming from Sunsama, I was looking for a timer app for Todoist, and have now fallen into the Toggle realm. A list view in the Board view would be helpful to make better use of the screen estate and to fit more tasks on the screen. Sunsama couldn’t do this and something I would have liked to quickly organise tasks. There also doesn’t seem to be a “Sort” on the board view? Filter, sure - but sort from high to low priority for example.

Ah it looks like I needed to click and drag a little bit, instead of just clicking. Now I’m wondering about adding attachments to tasks - is there an option for that?

Mine is a simple one: Let us undo (ctrl + z) actions. Just deleted a bunch of time logs by mistake and I simply can’t go back to how it was and that was the reason I’m even feedbacking here for the first time hahah

After Sorting in the Calendar view, I can’t ”remove sort” to go back to manual sorting and move tasks to the top that I want to work on next.

Hi Abby, I’m glad you were able to try out the timeline view! Please keep the feedback coming, it is really valuable for us.

It’s not possible to add attachments to tasks for the time being. I will share this feedback with our product team. There is an option to add notes to tasks, though, which could be used as a workaround if you use online files:

Hi @markkoeks, welcome to the Toggl realm, happy to have you here! :handshake:

Thank you for the feedback on a list view for tasks within the Board view and a sorting option on the Board. I will share them with our product team.

Please share any additional thoughts on how Toggl Focus compares to your experience with Sunsama/Todoist, would be curious to hear more!

Sorry, could you specify - do you mean you switched the date selection on the calendar view and couldn’t go back to the current week? There are no other sorting option in the Calendar view

Okay, well, with the addition of being able to attach files (sometimes our tasks need to be viewed from offsite and the attachments are a big part of that), I think we can probably make Focus work for us. Can you let me know if adding attachments is going to be an addition your team plans to make?
And are you able to tell me when the switch will be taking place?

Thanks for all your help with this.

Hi Toggl team, I didn’t go very deep into Toggl Focus yet but what I know is that the visual side is kinda important to me and it is one of the main reasons why I am using Toggl plan. So I would definitely appreciate having the option to choose the dark mode and tasks with beautiful bright colors as in Toggl Plan. Now it looks a bit like Google Calendar and that is not the space I would be feeling really comfortable in

What I really appreciate though is the option to schedule the tasks specifically by hours and I am expecting to get more organized with this – with Toggl Plan it happens to me too often that I keep moving the tasks that are not the easiest ones to the next day and to another etc because it is soo easy to do so

Thank you for the option to test the new product and good luck with the further development!
