1. Why did we build Toggl Focus?

Most of us spend our days juggling too much, guessing how long things will take, and then blaming ourselves when the math doesn’t add up.

That’s the trap. Plans aren’t plans – they’re guesses.

So we built Toggl Focus. Not just a new name. Not just a faster, more powerful, easier version of what came before. It’s a tool that grounds planning in reality – with time tracking built in.

Because when you see the truth about your time, you make better choices. And when you make better choices, the work gets better too.

Toggl Plan was good. Toggl Focus is better. We rebuilt it for you, and we hope you enjoy it. Let us know!

2. Will Toggl Plan go away completely? Why not keep both Toggl Plan and Toggl Focus?

Toggl Plan will remain available for a while to ensure all users can transition to Toggl Focus smoothly and without losing their key workflows. This won’t happen overnight — account owners will be notified well in advance, once we’re confident that users are getting real value from Toggl Focus.

Our goal is to deliver a better overall planning experience — something that wasn’t fully possible within Toggl Plan’s current setup.

With Toggl Focus, we’re overcoming those limitations and introducing the next generation of planning — more powerful, flexible, and designed for how individuals and teams actually work. We’re bringing the best of Toggl Plan and making it even better.

3. What will happen to my Toggl Plan account?

In line with in-app and email communication we’ll send your way in advance, you will be redirected to Toggl Focus when accessing Toggl Plan. You’re already able to do it before the specified date if you wish. Just log in here with your Toggl Plan credentials, import your data and make Toggl Focus your default planning tool.

Want to switch back to Toggl Plan? You can do that – but since Toggl Focus offers a more powerful and simpler experience, we hope you’ll soon move your workflow here.

Important: Your Toggl Focus and Toggl Plan data won’t sync – you can only import your data from Toggl Plan to Toggl Focus.

4. How will billing be handled?

If you’re a paid Toggl Plan customer, your billing information will remain accessible in Toggl Plan until your current plan expires (this would be the case if you cancel auto-renewal). When your current plan expires, you would need to subscribe to a new plan within Toggl Focus.

How to access your billing details in Toggl Plan:

  • Navigate to plan.toggl.com as an admin or owner of your workspace
  • Select to stay in Toggl Plan
  • View your Subscription page

All paid Toggl Plan customers will get access to a Toggl Focus pricing plan that matches their current feature access as part of their Toggl Plan subscription.

5. Can I try Toggl Focus without making it the default planner?

Yes, you can try out Toggl Focus without setting it as your default tool prior to your redirect date. While it will eventually be replaced by it, Toggl Plan will remain available for a while to ensure everyone can transition smoothly and without disrupting their workflows.

6. Can I switch to Toggl Focus fully before the redirect date?

You can!

  • If you’re using Toggl Plan on your own, log in to Toggl Focus and choose to make Toggl Focus your default planning tool.
  • If you’re using Toggl Plan with your team: Only admins can make Toggl Focus the default planning tool for your team prior to the redirect date. Once they do, your entire team will be redirected to Toggl Focus when they log in to Toggl Plan. Admins and owners will still be able to access Toggl Plan.

7. How can I access my billing details?

Your billing details for Toggl Plan will remain accessible. Even if you choose Toggl Focus as your default planning tool, every time admins and users who are owners of more than one workspace log in to plan.toggl.com, they will have the option to stay in Toggl Plan, where they can view the billing page.

8. What happens to my existing tasks, projects, and timelines?

All your existing data will remain accessible in Toggl Plan. If you choose to import it to Toggl Focus, keep in mind:

  • All active projects, tasks, milestones, and client information are brought over with a quick data import.
  • The import is not a continuous sync between Toggl Plan and Toggl Focus.

9. How will the switch work for teams?

If the workspace owner sets Toggl Focus as the team’s default tool prior to the redirect date, or on the announced switch date, the entire team will access Toggl Focus when logging in to Toggl Plan. The workspace owner will remain the same. All Toggl Plan admins will be brought over to Toggl Focus as Workspace Managers, and users will be Workspace Users. Learn more about the different roles here.

10. Are there new features in Toggl Focus?

We’re adding plenty of new features to help you become an even better planner. Here are a few highlights:

  • Calendar view for more precise planning and time blocking.
  • Cross-project boards: single Board view for all projects with filtering options. In Toggl Plan, all boards are project-specific.
  • Built-in time tracking, which helps you see whether what you planned matches what you actually spent. No more switching between a tracker and a planner — it all comes together in Toggl Focus.
  • Add up to 5 subtasks to your tasks.
  • Reporting functionalities with detailed breakdown charts for project, client and task status. Understand where time and effort is spent.

And a lot more is coming up to help you plan, track and deliver with clarity. Share your feedback in comments below to help shape the future of the product!

11. Will anything be missing from Toggl Plan?

Most key Toggl Plan features are available in Toggl Focus, see a comparison table here. However, some smaller features are not yet available such as adding attachments to tasks and ghost and guest roles. We’ll let you know as soon as the same or similar features become available in Toggl Focus.

12. Do I need to pay more for Toggl Focus?

No - you won’t be charged extra. Your access to features and price point will remain the same as they are in Toggl Plan. Using Toggl Focus will not incur any extra charges on top of what you currently pay for Toggl Plan - you can bring over all your team members and data.

13. Do I need to do anything to prepare?

A few quick steps can make your trying out Toggl Focus even smoother:

  • Archive old or unused projects you don’t want to import from Toggl Plan
  • Get a head start before the migration by logging into Toggl Focus with your Toggl Plan credentials
  • Find onboarding guides for solo users, team admins, and end users here.
  • Share your feedback in the comments below — we’re listening and continuously improving Toggl Focus to make it better for you.

14. Is my data secure during the switch?

Yes. The migration complies with Toggl’s privacy and security standards (ISO-certified, GDPR-compliant).

15. How can I switch back to Toggl Plan?

Once Toggl Focus has been set as your default planning tool, you can switch back to Toggl Plan from Settings → Toggl Focus Preferences and Settings. This will revert your whole organization back to Toggl Plan, and you can move back to Toggl Focus when you’re ready.

  • If you’re working solo, you will be directed to Toggl Plan automatically when logging in.

  • If you work in a team, once you set Toggl Plan back to being your default planner, your entire team will be directed to Toggl Plan.

16. Where can I get help during the switch?

Reach out in the Community with any questions. You can share your feedback there or through the form within Toggl Focus - we’re actively improving Toggl Focus thanks to your input.

Hi Toggl team,

since Oct 28, 2025, our Toggl Plan has stopped working. We’re still paying customers, and our team relies on Plan for day-to-day project management. Unfortunately, the new Toggl Focus doesn’t meet our needs, the simplicity and ease-of-use of Plan seem lost for our workflows, so continuing with Focus is not an option for us.

When will plan be accessible again?

Sorry to read that, Sebastian.

I hope we won’t be in the same boat. We tried the new Toggl Focus too, and even though we wanted to like it, the extra features don’t add value for our team (they actually add clutter). We absolutely LOVE Toggl Plan and have been using it for years—after extensive research before choosing it. We use it effortlessly every day and can’t afford to suddenly lose access to it. Hope you guys get your access back quickly! I know the Toggl team cares and will be listening.

@Sebastian_Hemetsberg you should be able to revert back to Plan still, we didn’t force a migration, we displayed a heads up overlay that would redirect you to Focus in 5s unless you cancel but you should still be able to go to https://plan.toggl.com/ and access plan, when you see this again just cancel:

@RickGi, the same applies to you and all other Plan users. You can still use Plan; migrating to Focus is entirely voluntary for the time being.

We would appreciate any feedback you have on why Focus didn’t work for you, and what makes it feel cluttered compared to Plan? Which specific features/views are in the way instead of adding value? Focus is still in beta, and we are actively monitoring user feedback and working on improvements.

@Support

We currently use Toggl Plan for capacity planning, and it fulfills that purpose effectively — it’s simple and straightforward.

We do not need a tool that helps us focus by adding steps like comparing planned vs. actual time or starting timers to track what we did versus what we intended to do. Also, for instance, if we want to use a Pomodoro timer, we can do that independently without integrating it into our planning tool.

From what we’ve seen, Toggl Focus does not improve or extend Toggl Plan in terms of capacity planning. Instead, it introduces an additional layer of complexity — asking us to adopt a more sophisticated “focusing” method that, paradoxically, does not help us focus.

In short, Toggl Focus adds unwanted steps to our workflow rather than simplifying it.

Hi! It’s great that you’re developing new products. However, Plan was simple and convenient, so I’ve been using it for years. If I needed a more complex and powerful product, I’d switch. Unfortunately, you’re forcibly upgrading me from a convenient product to one that’s inconvenient for my needs and overloaded with unnecessary features. This is very sad to see. If you don’t keep Plan, I’ll have to look for another app.

Hi Toggl Team,
I have tried using Toggl Focus, and I would like to ask you to reconsider keeping Toggl Plan.

Toggl Focus has removed several features that our team relies on, such as ghost users, custom task colors, team timeline, and more.
These features are what made Toggl Plan stand out and were the main reasons we chose it over other management tools (I personally tested nearly 20 different tools and chose Toggl Plan because of its flexibility and intuitive interface.)

While I understand that the development team aims to enhance the product and provide more value with Toggl Focus, it unfortunately does not meet the needs of our organization, and its interface is also quite limiting.

I sincerely hope you will carefully reconsider and withdraw the decision to discontinue Toggl Plan.

Completely agree. It would be very unfortunate if the team decides to remove Toggl Plan entirely and force users to switch to the new tool.

As a project planner this update gives me a whole load of anxiety! It seems to have complicated and cluttered the whole tool.

One key feature that I need for my team is the ability to upload attachments, we store important info like briefs, scripts and reference docs to tasks, so that any team member can find easily in one place everything they need to work on a project. Not having this function is entirely counter intuitive!

I also like to create my own list columns in board view, i.e. Brief/Pre-Production/Production. Not having this function and limiting to ‘to-do’ is disappointing and limits organisations within the tool.

After importing my data from Toggl Plan, a lot of my tasks have gone missing entirely as they don’t fit into the assigned status columns, I’m still trying to figure out where hundreds of my tasks have now gone.

The main interface is so much less clear to see what tasks everyone is working on simultaneously!

Not sure why this hasn’t been introduced as an add-on that works alongside Plan, like Track previously was. Unsure why this has been brought in to replace entirely?

A few of my team have tried to use Focus for a few days and have switched back. We’ve used Plan for 3.5 years and if Focus is eventually migrating and replacing entirely then I’m going to need to switch to a different platform, which will cost HOURS of data copying and migration.

If any of these features are already available, can someone from Toggl please get in touch with me to chat me through Focus. Otherwise, we won’t be moving forward with Focus.

@Support if the redirect is happening for certain on 15 Dec, I’ll need to know whether access to Plan will be lost entirely ASAP so I can start looking for other solutions and ensure years of team data isn’t lost.

Hi @nicoladavies, you can keep access to Toggl Plan after the redirect, here is how (point 15 in this article, not sure if the direct link works). Happy to chat with you and give you a walkthrough of Toggl Focus, please schedule a call with us here.

Also very frustrated with the forced switch from Plan to Focus.

Wishing you would keep Plan but am starting to look for other options.

Also one thing to share: ever since the release of Focus, Toggl Plan access has not been stable.

There has been quite a few days during this transitionary period where the app doesn’t load and just spins.

Overall this was a very botched “upgrade” expereince from a user perspective and I’m pretty sad to leave Toggl after working with you for nenarly 8 years!

Could we have a definitive timeline for when Toggl is planning on removing access to Plan? I am not at all interested in Focus, and am very disappointed with the forced changeover. I really need to know when I will need to have my backup plan in place so that my team does not lose any time. It’s very unfortunate you are placing your users in this situation needlessly.

@Support we need to know when the forced migration is happening with a definitive date, so that those not wanting to use Focus start to plan the (unnecessary!) move to alternative platforms

Hi Mike, we’re looking into the issue with Toggl Plan access you mentioned, will share an update

Hi Tim, there is no date decided on yet - the eventual complete replacement of Toggl Plan with Toggl Focus will be communicated in advance, there will be no surprises. For now, you may continue to use Toggl Plan without switching to Toggl Focus.
I’m sorry to hear you’re not at all interested in Toggl Focus - we’re constantly working to improve it based on feedback, so it not only matches the features of Toggl Plan but offers better performance and extra value. If you’d be open to talk to us about your feedback in-depth, please book time here.

There are major issues with Toggl focus, primarily that all my checklists are gone. There is so much in there so much would be lost if I couldn’t revert back. I love Toggl plan so much, it has been what keeps me running for years. I just couldn’t get Toggle focus to work the way plan does. Bottom line though, if I have to manually copy all my checklists from Plan to Focus, I’m going to go ahead and switch to a new tool. I am so worried that after noticing I lost that what else might be lost and I have things scheduled years into the future. It would be like a whole week of work to go through all of it. This has been a really big added stress that I really don’t need. Raise the price $5 or something a month if you must, but please don’t take away toggl plan.
