I understand how frustrating that must be, especially since it’s working fine in Google Docs for you.
Since the Toggl browser extension works in some Google apps but not Gmail, here are a few things you can try:
First, make sure the Toggl extension has permission to run on Gmail. Check your Chrome extension settings and verify that Toggl has access to mail.google.com specifically.
If permissions look good, try disabling and re-enabling the Toggl extension. Sometimes this refreshes the connection between the extension and the webpage.
You could also try using an incognito window in Chrome to see if the button works there. This can help rule out conflicts with other extensions.
As a workaround in the meantime, you can always start your timer directly from the Toggl web app or mobile app and add the Gmail task details manually, or use the browser extension on a different Google service and update the description afterward.
If none of these steps resolve it, the issue may be specific to your setup, and there could be browser-specific factors at play.
I have the same issue, started several days ago. When clicking “Start Timer” in GMail, it does nothing. It works in other places where I use it (Github, Azure etc).
GMail must have changed something on their side, can you get it to work again please?
I already tried turning off the GMail option in the extension settings, and turning it back on. Must be something in the GMail javascript that is interfering with the extension.
